Madras Swim Team had 20 kids swim at the Hillsboro Swim Club meet
The Madras Swim Team had 20 youths compete at the Hillboro Swim Club meet last weekend.
Karson Hartman took top billing in the 8-and-under 25-yard backstroke.
"In all the swims we competed in, about 80 percent were best times," MST head coach Bobby DeRoest said. "It was a good meet for our kids."
DeRoest noted that Tadd Anderson shaved time in his events, and that Teague Schierling and Tyler Hughes are very close to posting state championship qualifying times.
The Madras Swim Team will compete Feb. 12 at the Last Chance swim meet held at the Madras Aquatic Center. Action begins at 10:45 a.m. The event is one day after the Special District 2 Class 4A/3A/2A/1A district meet at the MAC.
MHS boys basketball program hosting bowling night at Madras Bowl
The Madras High School boys basketball program will host a fundraiser at Madras Bowl Feb. 2.
From 9:30-11:45 p.m., bowlers can bowl as many games as possible for $15 tickets sold prior to the event. Cost is $20 at the door.
Proceeds help benefit the basketball program.
Youth Outdoor Adventures to hold shooting practice Feb. 4-5
Youth Outdoor Adventures will hold a shooting practice Feb. 4-5 at the Madras Rod and Gun Club from 12-3 p.m. each day.
Representatives from the local police and sheriff's offices will be on hand to help with instruction and safety for the youths.

Bauman of Madras sinks hole-in-one at Desert Peaks Golf Club
Jim Bauman sunk a hole-in-one Jan. 29 at Desert Peaks Golf Club.
Using a pitching wedge, Bauman needed just one shot on the par-3 eighth hole from 101 yards away.
Culver High School's junior varsity wrestling squad places 13th overall
The Culver High School junior varsity wrestling squad placed 13th at last weekend's Reser's Tournament of Champions held at Hillsboro High School.
Kyle Bender (126 pounds) and Cody Clugston (160) each placed second for Culver, and Josh Hendrix (285) finished fourth.
Desert Peaks Men's golf association annual meeting Feb. 15
The Madras men's golf association's annual meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Desert Peaks Golf Club.
All golfers are welcome to attend and join the association. A yearly membership is $50 and includes an Oregon Golf Association handicap.

Madras High School softball program hosting clinic Feb. 18 for youths
The Madras High School softball program will host its annual player clinic Feb. 18 for youths in the second through the 12th grade.
A skills camp will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a pitcher/ catcher camp will take place from 2-4 p.m.
