MHS place seventh out of 48 basketball teams Seven players from the Madras High School girls' basketball team placed seventh at the Cass of the Field Tournament in Oregon City last weekend. Madras beat Battle Ground, Wash., 61-48, Clackamas 64-52, La Salle 53-42 and Bellevue, Wash., 64-54, but fell to Southridge 67-66 in overtime and Clackamas 64-52. JoElla Smith and Abby Scott were named to the all-tournament team for Madras. On June 10, Madras downed Mountain View 70-38 behind 19 points from Karlen Yallup and 15 points from Smith. On June 16, the White Buffalos took care of La Pine 61-55, behind 25 points from Yallup and 21 points from Abby Scott. 12th annual Beamer run held July 4 in Madras The 12th annual Todd Beamer Independence Day Run will be held July 4 at Sahalee Park in Madras. The event consists of a two-mile run/walk, a six-mile walk and a 10K run. All interested participants can pick up registration forms at The Madras Pioneer and Madras Medical Group. Entry fee is $20 and includes a T-Shirt. Proceeds from the event fund a spirit scholarship that honors the late Todd Beamer. Youth football signups located at The Pioneer Culver, Madras and Warm Springs youth in the fourth through sixth grades interested in signing up for youth tackle football can pick up a registration form at the Madras Pioneer. MHS girls program hosting can drive The Madras High School girls basketball team is hosting a can drive at Ericksons July 5 starting at 11 a.m. The program is fundraising for a trip to North Carolina to participate in an elite summer basketball camp held at the University of North Carolina. MAC Dash nearing, sign up online or by mail The second annual MAC Dash, held at the Madras Aquatic Center, will take place Sept. 12 and interested participants can register online or by mail. The swim, bike and run sprint triathlon featured contestants from 14 years of age to 68-year-olds competing last year. For more information call 475-4253 or visit www.macaquatic.com.
