Parade, fun run, fireworks on tap for Fourth of July


   The Madras Fourth of July celebration will once again kick off with the Todd Beamer Memorial Run and Faith Trail Sanctuary Breakfast at 7 a.m. A family Fun Run begins around 9 a.m.
   The breakfast features pancakes, eggs and ham and runs until 10 a.m. at Sahalee Park.
   The parade begins at 11 a.m., traveling down 10th Street, then west on B Street, to wind up at Sahalee Park.
   The theme for the parade is "Happy Birthday America." Jana Roth is again serving as organizer.
   Registration takes place near the tennis courts on 10th Street beginning at 9:30 a.m. Youngsters who want to participate in the parade can gather at Madras Elementary by 10:40 a.m. For further information, contact Roth at 475-4319.
   Events continue in the park with plenty of tempting food and beverage vendors and family fun from noon to 4 p.m., presented by the Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.
   Kids and adults will enjoy the carnival midway, where all games are $1, the Dead Ringer horseshoe contest, dunk tank, whipped cream pie eating contest, watermelon eating contest, and bed races. Kids relays will include three-legged, wheel barrow, gunny sack, and leap frog races.

   The day is capped off at dark with a spectacular Fourth of July fireworks display, sponsorMartin and Dalia Castrejon of Madras are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter Jacqueline Castrejon at 8:31 a.m., June 15, at Mountain View Hospital in Madras. At birth, Jacqueline weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and measured 21 inches in length. She joins siblings Samantha, 5, and Isabel, 1.
   The grandparents are Martin and Elvira Castrejon of Bakersfield, Calif., Bertold Ruiz Aburto of San Antonio, Texas, and Herlinda Fernandez Munguia of Westminster, Calif. The great-grandparents are Roman and Elvira Fernandez.
