Still time to slimdown

Moving Mountains Challenge

There's still time to enter the Moving Mountains Slimdown Challenge 2010, but not much time.

The final weigh-in available is today, Wednesday, March 10, at Mountain View Hospital in Madras and at the Warm Springs in the Diabetes Prevention Building, both from 4 to 6 p.m.

Saturday's initial weigh-in event at the hospital saw approximately 150 register for the four-month weight-loss, waist-reduction contest. Another 50 to 60 registered on Monday, bringing the total over 200 entrants.

The program cost $25 to enter, and all which is returned in prize money. Categories include teams of four and individual competitions. First-place men's, women's and mixed (two each) will receive cash awards, and the first- through third-place individuals in male and female categories will win cash. Cash amounts will be determined by how many entrants are in each division and will be announced following the conclusion of registration.

Participants are going to be graded on the percentage of body weight loss and also percentage of waist circumference reduced during the four months. It isn't just a weight-loss contest, organizers stress, but a get-healthy contest. Many free exercise programs are planned as part of the program.

Moving Mountains is a joint project of the Mountain View Hospital Foundation, the county's Healthy Communities Program, the Pioneer, Madras Aquatic Center and Madras Athletic Club.
