Reuben Amunrud
Former Madras resident Reuben Amunrud, 83, died Dec. 22, 2009, at his home in Baker City. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Feb. 13, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 975 S. Bridge St., Baker City, followed by a reception. A full obituary will appear in next week's Pioneer.

Robert Brown
Robert K. "Bob" Brown died Jan. 22, 2010, at home in Rathdrum, Idaho, at the age of 77.
Mr. Brown was born in Aberdeen, Wash., on March 23, 1932, to parents Kenneth and Catherine Brown. He grew up in Walla Walla, Wash., and graduated from WaHi High School in 1950. At Washington State University, he was a first-year letterman on the ski team and member of Lambda Kai fraternity, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business. He was an active alumni and a die-hard Cougar fan.
His first eight years out of college, he worked for Shell Oil Co. Afterward that, he was active in real estate and mortgage companies in the Seattle area. Later, Mr. Brown started and owned Olympic Coast Mortgage Co. which sold in 1995.
He was a lifetime member of the Lynnwood, Wash., Elks Lodge. His retirement was filled with birdwatching, fly-fishing, golf, and drives to enjoy the beautiful scenery. He loved and enjoyed life and released a lot of fish for the next generation.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Lori Brown, of Rathdrum, Idaho; brother Jack Brown of Eugene; daughters, Susan, Jenny Rueter of Madras, and Melissa; son, Greg; stepdaughter, Rene'; stepson, Brett; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He left behind many new and long treasured friends.
A celebration of life will be scheduled in May at Twin Lakes Village Club House in Rathdrum, Idaho. Memorials have been suggested to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, Idaho 83835. Arrangements were under the direction of Yates Funeral Homes.

Joe Hall
Joe Hall
Joe Andy Hall, 83, died Jan. 29, 2010, in his home surrounded by family.
Mr. Hall was born Aug. 7, 1926, to parents Helen Mozelle (Allison) and William Emanuel Hall in Heber Springs, Ark.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Combat Engineer Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II. In 1947, he moved to Madras, where he met Hattie Ann Choate. They were married on July 9, 1950.
He and his beloved Hattie operated Madras Freight Lines together until 1964. He later continued a business in construction and heavy off-road trucking in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. He retired from the construction business in 1977 and continued to invest in real estate and other ventures.
He enjoyed spending his mornings having coffee with his friends, boating and laughing with his family. He was never one to pass up a good joke. Mr. Hall was especially close to his nephew Jim Hall, whom he loved and trusted.
Survivors include his three children, Mike Hall of Madras, Regina Hall of Bend and Camille Mendoza and son-in-law Dr. Frank Mendoza of Madras; grandchildren, Melanie Miles and her husband Mark, Dr. Emily Ko and her husband Dr. Dennis Ko, Sarah Dowty and her husband Levi, Cassandra Phillips, Micah Bodenlos, Kainan Bodenlos and his wife Trina; great-grandchildren, Ian and Aden Holmes, Apollo Miles, Olivia Ko; and his dog Lexie. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Patrick, and his wife Hattie. He will be missed by his family and his many friends in Central Oregon.
A private memorial service was held on Jan. 27, for the family. Arrangements were made under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home of Madras.

Sister Mary McDonald
Sister Mary Floranne McDonald, 91, (Phoebe Catherine McDonald) died Jan. 27, 2010, at the Convent of Holy Names in Lake Oswego. She was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Madras to Alex and Beth McDonald of Ashwood.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Provencial Chapel of Holy Names at Marylhurst in Lake Oswego. A full obituary will appear in next week's Pioneer.

Ralph Moll
Metolius resident Ralph "Tony" J. Moll died Jan. 23, 2010, at the age of 66.
Mr. Moll was born Dec. 5, 1943, in Ottawa, Kan., to parents Ralph G. and Ella Moll.
He worked for many ranches in Central Oregon over the years, and for the state of Oregon for 10 years.
His special interests included horses, dogs, roundup, hunting, fishing and especially camping with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Moll of Metolius; his daughters, Lisa of Coos Bay, and Kym and her husband Kort Pearson of Los Angeles; stepchildren, Tammy Nichols, Earl Nichols, Penni Nichols and Ginger Fouts, all of the Portland area, and Dutch and Diane Hockett of Redmond; grandchildren, including Amanda, Christopher and Cameron of Los Angeles, Calif.; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 30, at New Life Fellowship Church in Madras, with arrangements under the direction of Autumn Funerals of Redmond. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Mountain View Hospice and Home Health in Madras.

Robert Story
Robert Story
Former Madras resident Robert Lyle Story of Redmond, died Jan. 29, 2010, at the age of 84.
Mr. Story was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Flint, Mich. He attended 11 years of school in Flint, Mich., then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. He was one of very few survivors of the SS Leopoldville, which was torpedoes just 5 miles off the coast of France as it was enroute to the Battle of the Bulge on Dec. 24, 1944. He continued to serve in the military until 1946.
Returning home, Mr. Story married his longtime love Helen Marjorie Thompson on Oct. 26, 1946, in Prineville.
He worked in multiple mills during his career, including Consolidated Pine, Hudspeth and Warm Springs Forest Products, where he retired after 22 years.
He greatly enjoyed and took pride in his work at the mills, which brought him to his love of woodworking. He also loved to fish, hunt, golf with his sons and grandsons, and most of all, play music. He played in the Outhouse Singers Band as rhythm guitar with his son Denny for 15 years, but his music history went well beyond that.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Story of Redmond; sons, Roy and Becky Story of Kingman, Ariz., Robert Story and Dennis and Patty Story of Madras; daughters, Roberta Fox and Pamela Story, both of Prineville; brothers, Dale Story of Moses Lake, Wash., and Merle and Louella Story of Redmond; sisters, Carol Zehe of Redmond, and Lola Brice of Reno, Nev.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and adopted family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Wilma Story; sister Mary Taylor; and grandsons, Denny Lee and Johnathan Lyle.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at the First Church of God in Redmond, at Eighth and Elm streets. Viewing will be from 12 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Autumn Funeral Home in Redmond.
