. Esther Card Former Ashwood resident Esther Louise Card, 94, died June 18, 2009, at her home in Forest Grove. Services are pending. A full obituary will appear at a later date. . Doyle Collins Pastor Doyle J. Collins, 89, of Roseburg, died June 3, 2009, following a long illness. He was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Pilot Rock, Texas, to William and Pearl Collins. He served in the European Theater during World War II and was awarded a silver star, two bronze stars, and a purple heart. Before leaving for the war, he married Ila Mae Jackson on Jan. 5, 1943, and they were happily married for 66 1/2 years. The Collinses lived in Madras for 16 years, where he was the pastor of the Madras First Baptist Church. A resident of Roseburg for the past 32 years, he pastored the Vine Street Baptist Church from 1977 to 1990. In his 50-plus years of ministry, he pastored four churches, served as vice president and president of the Northwest Baptist Convention, and was on the executive committee of the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville, Tenn. He retired on his 70th birthday, but continued to hold revivals until his health failed. Mr. Collins was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a people-lover and enjoyed his ministry to the fullest. Survivors include his wife, Ila Mae Collins of Roseburg; children, Jim and Karen Collins of Madras; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Treya Collins, both of Greely, Colo., andBradley Collins and fiancee Jennifer Dion of Springfield; great-granddaughter, Annastasia Collins of Greely, Colo.; sister, Doloris and husband Roy Edwards of Oakland, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Deryl and Dayle Collins, and an infant son, Todd. Burial services were held in Madras, officiated by Pastor Richard Burson, with arrangements under the direction of Rusty Miller, Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg. Celebration of life services were held June 20, at Vine Street Baptist Church in Roseburg, with colors presented by the Roseburg High ROTC, the playing of "Taps," and with Dr. Bill Crews, executive director of Northwest Baptist Convention of Vancouver, Wash., as the speaker. Memorials have been suggested to VSBC 54 and More Senior Group, as Mr. Collins was very fond of their activities. . . Melvin DuRette Former Madras resident Melvin Ralph DuRette died June 17, 2009, in Wilsonville at the age of 90. Mr. DuRette was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Fairfield, Ore., to parents F. Ralph and Valerie DuRette. He lived in Fairfield until age 12, when his family moved to the Charbonneau area. He graduated from Canby High School. On Dec. 17, 1938, he married Pearl Pugh in Fargo, Ore. Mr. DuRette worked on the Willamette River with his father in the winters, and farmed in the summers. The DuRettes moved to Madras in 1962, where they farmed mint and grass seed, and also had another farm at Wamic. In the community he was a 4-H leader, member of the Marion County Sheriff's Reserve, the Order of Eastern Star, and Masonic Lodge, and in Donald and St. Paul, Ore., served on the school board. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Marie and Ken Fessler, Carolyn and Ron Gross, Bill and Carolin DuRette, Jan and Harry Miller, and Marty DuRette Jones. Services were held June 22, at Canby Funeral Chapel, with Father Philip Waibel officiating. Burial was at Butteville Cemetery. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Legacy Hospice of McMinnville, 2275 N.E. McDaniel Lane, McMinnville, OR 97128. . . (PHOTO) Fannie Ellen Regnier of Madras passed away on June 18, 2009, at the age of 103 at her home surrounded by her family. Fannie was born on Aug. 30, 1905, on a homestead six miles southeast of Madras to Homer and Susan (Van Buskirk) Alexander. Fannie stayed her entire life in Central Oregon. She married Fritz Haberstitch on June 25, 1925. Fritz had a homestead on Agency Plains, where the couple lived and farmed for many years. During the war, she worked as a vehicle driver on the Madras Air Base and later in the a tower spotting planes. She was honored as the Jefferson County Pioneer Queen in 1981, and was also to be asked to be the first person to ride over the new Crooked River Bridge when it was built. After her first husband passed away, Fannie married Almond Regnier in March 1977 in Reno, Nev. They operated The Washboard Laundromat in Metolius until retireing in 1980. Fannie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Madras, the Juniper Rebekah Lodge, Daughters of the American Revolution, AARP, the Live and Learn Club, LAP, and several other organizations. Survivors include, her husband, Al Regnier of Madras; children, Thelma Krueger of Culver, Homer Haberstitch of Metolius, and Fred Haberstitch of Boardman; Sister, Agness Hardin of Monroe; 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 48 great-great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Two husbands, three brothers, one sister, daughter Marjorie, and two grandsons preceded her in death. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Madras. Committal will follow at the Culver IOOF Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home of Madras. . . Chesley Yahtin Sr. Warm Springs resident Chesley Yahtin Sr. died June 8, 2009, at the age of 78. Services were in Toppenish, Wash. A full obituary will appear at a later date. |
