Texas crew helps remodel First Baptist Church

Texas volunteers paint at Madras First Baptist.

Madras First Baptist Church was a busy site this week as 14 volunteers from West Conroe Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas, came to spruce up the 100-year-old building.
The volunteers spent five days remodeling and updating restrooms, painting, cleaning, building shelves and placing new window frames and doors in strategic spots. The high point of the week for the visiting team was helping replace the church's outdoor cross that had blown down in a windstorm last year.
Madras First Baptist Church and West Conroe Baptist Church began a partnership in 2005. Since the partnership began, the two churches, which are separated by 2,000 miles have talked, shared ideas and materials, visited each other's campuses, and encouraged each other. The partnership has been a tremendous blessing to both congregations, according to Pastor Richard Burson.
West Conroe sent another team last year to help the Madras church get ready for its 100-year anniversary celebration. A project much like the television show "Extreme Make-Over: Home Edition" occurred.
The group of volunteers gutted and remodeled the church sanctuary, transforming it into a modern and updated place in which to worship.
First Baptist Church is located at the corner of Seventh and A streets. They meet on Sundays for Bible study at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. and on Wednesdays for a fellowship meal at 5:30 and prayer meeting at 6:30 p.m.
