Robert "Bob" and Elizabeth "Bette" (DePeel) Bentley, of Culver, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 3.

They were married on that date in 1952, at the Bentley family home in Marquam, Ore., while Bob was home on leave from Japan during the Korean War.

Bob Bentley is a first generation Oregonian, and graduated from Molalla High School in 1950. He attended both Oregon State University and University of Oregon, before getting his Bachelor's Degree in Education at Mount Angel College in 1965. He received his Master's Degree in Special Education from Western Oregon College of Education, now known as Western Oregon University.

Bentley taught elementary school throughout the Willamette Valley, and his final position in education was at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, as an education specialist. He retired in 1993.

Bette Bentley moved to Silverton in 1942, from Forsyth, Mont. She graduated from Silverton High School in 1950.

Though she attended college when first married, after they started their family she became a full-time working mother, supporting her husband in his education quest to become a teacher.

She started working with the city of Silverton in 1978, and retired from there in 1993, as the secretary of the Planning/Building/Public Works Department with the city.

The Bentleys have three daughters and one son, Kathie Conley (and husband Steve Nash) of Redmond, Kim (Alvin) Espinola of Silver Lake, Ore., Karen (Jim) Donker of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Roger (Lauren) Bentley of New York City, N.Y. They also have three grandsons, and several step-grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.

The children will help them celebrate their anniversary with a private family dinner because of the health of the Bentleys. Friends may send memories or cards to P.O. Box 288, Culver, OR 97734; no gifts please.
