Ellsbury still on shelf, Ceciliani continues to hit

Both MHS graduates

Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury is still rehabilitating from a rib injury he sustained during an outfield collision April 11, while Darrell Ceciliani continues to lead the Brooklyn Cyclones in batting average.

Ellsbury has been in Florida working his way back from fractured ribs after missing all but nine games this season due to the injury, and the outfielder resumed baseball activities last week after working out at the Athletes Performance facility in Arizona for more than a month.

He has underwent some scrutiny in the Boston papers for rehabilitating for so long away from the team, but Ellsbury appears to be on his way back to the Boston starting lineup soon, according to reports.

Ellsbury led all of MLB with 70 stolen bases last season and the Red Sox desperately want to get him back in the lineup, having been hammered with injuries this season and six games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East standings.

Ceciliani is still hitting at the dish and doing so with consistency for the Cyclones -- an affiliate of the New York Mets. The center fielder is leading the team with a .383 batting average and is tops on the squad with 46 hits and five triples in 31 games played.

The 2008 Madras graduate is leading the New York Penn League in average, hits and triples.

Recently, Ceciliani went hitless Monday against the Tri-City Valley Cats, was one for two Sunday against the Valley Cats and was three for five last Saturday in the opener against Tri-City.

Ceciliani and the Cyclones opened a three game set against the Lowell Spinners, which was the first professional team that Ellsbury played on in 2005.
