Ø  Jefferson County was established in 1914 as a seccession from Crook County to the southeast. Jefferson County covers 1,791 square miles in Central Oregon.
Ø  The county seat is the city of Madras, population 6,500 (approx.), while county population is in excess of 17,000. The county is one of the fastest-growing in the state of Oregon.
Ø  Temperatures average 37degrees F in January and 70 degrees F in July with an annual average precipitation of 11.6 inches, recorded at Madras.
Ø  Primary industries include wood products manufacturing, tourism and agriculture.
Ø  Excellent fishing and recreation can be found in Jefferson County's rivers and lakes, including  Lake Billy Chinook, Lake Simtustus, the Deschutes, Crooked and Metolius Rivers.
Ø  Annual events include The Sports and Recreation Show (April), the Collage of Culture festival (May), Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days (June), the Madras Fourth of July Celebration, Culver Great America Day and the Jefferson County Fair (July).
Ø  Much of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation is located in Jefferson County.  The Warm Springs Reservation is home to the award-winning The Museum at Warm Springs and Kah-Nee-Ta Resort.
