A teenager’s dream for a skatepark in Culver has crossed many hurdles, achieved many triumphs and raised three-quarters of the projected cost to build the park.

In 2019, Culver High School freshman Uriel Mejia stood before the Culver City Council in 2019 and asked for a skatepark for the community. Since then, major donors contributed $168,000 to purchase the land for the skatepark and pay for engineering and legal fees. The community has raised more than $140,000 to build the park, estimated to cost north of $200,000
