St. Charles Health System selected nurse Labree Tolman for its annual DAISY award. Tolman works in the Emergency Department at St. Charles Madras.
A fellow caregiver, Marian Morris-Ervin, nominated Tolman for the award.
“During a cardiac event, Labree was calm, collected and professional,” wrote Morris-Ervin. “Also, in her role as lead Emergency Department RN, she was able to teach her fellow RNs in a professional and meaningful way. Labree demonstrated excellent clinical skills and critical thinking. During her 20-year career, she has excelled in all areas of nursing.”
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by members of his family. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.) The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Tolman is one of four nurses to receive the 2023 honor, one at each of the St. Charles Central Oregon hospitals.
She was recognized with a ceremony in her unit and present with a certificate, a pin, and a “healer’s touch” sculpture by the hospital chief nursing officer. The DAISY honorees also received ongoing benefits, such as special rates for tuition and American Nurses Credentialing Center certification.
